PepsiCo has recalled about 122,000 cases of Gatorade in the US after the drinks were found to contain undeclared artificial dyes, the Food and Drug Administration said.
The Gatorade recall covers 28-ounce bottles of Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange and Orange Zero varieties. The affected products were distributed across 37 states.
The FDA said the beverages contain Yellow No. 6 and/or Yellow No. 5, colouring agents that were not declared on the product labelling.
PepsiCo began the recall on 25 September. It was classified as a Class II recall by the FDA on 2 October, meaning exposure may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences”, according to the agency.
The recalled Gatorade was sold in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
The recall number is H-0009-2027.
PepsiCo had not immediately responded to a request for comment on whether customers who purchased the affected products would be eligible for a refund.
