The Premier League Team of the Week features standout performers from an unpredictable weekend, with Brighton’s Pascal Gross, Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey and Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo among those recognised by WhoScored.
The selection, based on the ratings awarded by the performance-statistics website, reflects a round in which Aston Villa, Everton and Coventry all secured important victories.
Brentford’s 3-0 win over Chelsea earns Jannick Schuster a place in defence. The Austrian helped his side keep a clean sheet and also provided an assist.
Everton’s victory over Ipswich, achieved without conceding, sees Ainsley Maitland-Niles and James Tarkowski included in the back four. Coventry’s Jay Dasilva completes the defence after scoring his side’s opening goal against Nottingham Forest to secure their first points of the season.
Gross leads midfield after Brighton shock Arsenal
Gross is named at the heart of the team after another influential display for Brighton. Having helped the Seagulls defeat Manchester United in midweek cup action, he played a central role as they produced the weekend’s biggest result by beating Arsenal 3-0.
There is also a strong Aston Villa presence in attack following their away win over Tottenham in Saturday’s early kick-off. Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendi all scored as Unai Emery’s side got their season moving.
Brobbey is selected after scoring three times against Manchester City. Although Sunderland ultimately finished on the losing side, the striker’s performance again demonstrated the threat he poses when supplied with opportunities.
Semenyo completes the attack after contributing two goals and an assist in a 5-3 victory.
