Gabriel Magalhaes says he is ready to take another penalty for Arsenal despite his miss in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian defender was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s group-phase meeting with Lille, having been selected for the pre-match press conference because of his former links with the French club.
Much of the questioning instead centred on the decisive moment in May, when Gabriel sent his penalty over the bar in the Budapest final.
Gabriel admitted the miss had been difficult but insisted it would not prevent him from stepping forward again if required.
“In the final, anything can happen,” he said. “We did really well in the Champions League. Of course, if I have another penalty, I’m going to be there to take it.”
The Arsenal centre-back said the support of his team-mates had helped him deal with the disappointment and reflect on the experience.
“My team-mates helped me a lot after this,” Gabriel said. “Of course, I was sad, I didn’t want to miss a penalty but of course I learn from this and if I have an opportunity, I’m there to take it.”
