Australia’s corporate regulator, ASIC, is strengthening safeguards for equity trading as algorithms now account for about 85 per cent of activity in the country’s share markets.
The measures are intended to address the risks posed by runaway trading systems, market manipulation and sudden swings in prices.
ASIC’s intervention comes as automated algorithms become dominant in Australian equities trading, increasing the focus on controls designed to protect market stability.
