Australian television personality and fitness entrepreneur Sam Wood has been charged with domestic violence offences in Queensland and remains in custody on remand.
The 46-year-old faces two charges: assault occasioning bodily harm in a domestic violence setting and strangulation in a domestic setting.
Police allege the offences took place on Saturday night on Hastings Street in Noosa, a beachside town in Queensland. Wood appeared at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday for his first mention.
His lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, asked for the matter to be adjourned until Thursday. A bail application is expected to be scheduled for that hearing.
Wood became known nationally in 2015 after appearing on The Bachelor, where he met his wife, Snezana Markoski. He later built a fitness business and became a prominent fitness trainer.
Wood and Ms Markoski have issued a joint statement on social media titled “Statement from the Wood Family”.
“This is a difficult time for all of us, we are working through this as a family and are thoroughly co-operating with the authorities,” the statement said.
Both charges carry a maximum sentence of seven years in Queensland if a conviction is secured.
