Brisbane rail commuters faced delays of up to 40 minutes after a signalling fault at Eagle Junction restricted services on several northern lines.
Queensland Rail identified the problem shortly after 6.30am, prompting Translink to warn of disruption on the Airport, Caboolture, Doomben, Redcliffe Peninsula, Shorncliffe and Sunshine Coast lines. The Ferny Grove line was not affected.
The fault disrupted trains travelling in both directions through the major station, where only two of the four tracks were available for more than an hour while the issue was dealt with.
Engineers resolved the problem shortly before 8am, but services remained behind schedule as the backlog cleared. By 10am, Queensland Rail said the affected routes were still experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes.
The rail authority said it expected the disruption to have no impact on the afternoon peak.
