Dakota Johnson appeared to lose patience at the New York premiere of Verity after Anne Hathaway took charge of the red-carpet photographs.
Hathaway, who is pregnant, enthusiastically directed the photographers while posing alongside Johnson and co-star Josh Hartnett at the event on Tuesday.
As Hathaway gave instructions about where the cast should look, Johnson performed a small jig before touching her co-star’s bump. Hathaway then began outlining how the group would pose.
“OK everybody ready? We are going to start from the left and then we can make our way that way,” Hathaway said.
Pointing across the carpet, she added: “We are going to start here and then we are going to do what Josh said.”
Johnson replied: “Then I’m going to leave.”
It was unclear what had irritated Johnson, although the pair have spoken about their close friendship after filming Verity and described having “great chemistry as friends on the set”. Their playful relationship was also apparent during the premiere, where the two women shared a hug.
The film includes several kissing scenes involving the central trio. Hathaway previously joked that “it’s a miracle nobody got sick”, while Johnson said she would “kiss Hathaway for the rest of her life if possible”.
Hathaway plays best-selling author Verity Crawford in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel. Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to finish Verity’s book series after a mysterious accident leaves the author debilitated.
Hartnett plays Verity’s devoted husband, Jeremy Crawford. After arriving at the couple’s lavish estate, Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript containing dark secrets about Verity and her husband’s past.
The writer must decide whether the manuscript is fiction or a disturbing warning from a dangerous woman while continuing her work for Jeremy.
Verity was adapted for the screen by Nick Antosca and directed by Michael Showalter. The film is due to be released in cinemas on October 2.
