Scattered showers are expected across Washington DC, Maryland and parts of Virginia on Monday morning before conditions turn drier, although skies will remain mostly cloudy through the afternoon.
The National Weather Service forecast a high of about 72F (22C) in the Washington area, with light north-westerly winds of between 5 and 10mph. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the 50s.
The unsettled weather comes as a low-pressure nor’easter system moves northwards and weakens after bringing rain and strong winds to the region. A coastal flood advisory was in force for parts of the area until late Monday morning.
Most of the working week is expected to stay dry, despite periods of cloud and a small chance of further showers. Sunshine should return by Wednesday, when temperatures are forecast to climb into the low to mid-80s and remain similarly mild on Thursday.
Clouds are likely to build again on Friday, bringing the possibility of evening rain. The chance of wet weather is expected to increase over the weekend, with temperatures easing back to the low to mid-70s.
