A woman has been charged with murder after her partner was allegedly struck by a car in a suburban street west of Brisbane.
Emergency services were called to Stoneywood Street in Fernvale shortly before 6pm on Sunday after reports that a man had been hit by a vehicle.
The 50-year-old man was found unresponsive with significant injuries. Police and paramedics performed CPR at the scene, while a CareFlight helicopter was deployed, but he could not be saved.
Security guard Kyle Wilford, who has medical training, was among the first to reach the man and began resuscitation efforts.
“So I went down and found a male laying on the floor, unresponsive. I started CPR straight away,” he said.
Mr Wilford said there was no pulse and that two other people helped with the attempt to save the man.
“It was terrifying, but we did everything we could. It’s a human nature thing … is to try and preserve life,” he said.
Woman charged over Fernvale death
Neighbours said the couple had been arguing before the incident. Detective Inspector Michael Manago said police were investigating a disturbance at the address which led to the man being struck by the vehicle in the street.
Police later restrained the man’s 45-year-old partner until officers arrived. She was charged on Monday with murder, treated as a domestic violence homicide, and disqualified driving.
Detective Inspector Manago said the couple were known to police and that officers had previously attended the property over domestic and family violence-related matters.
At least one of the couple’s adult children was at the home when the incident unfolded, but police said no minors were present.
A white Commodore station wagon has been seized as part of the investigation. Police described the incident as a traumatic event in a public space in a rural area outside Brisbane.
The woman has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident or the couple’s relationship to come forward.
