Police in Buckeye, Arizona, say a mother was assaulted inside her home as part of an alleged online plot involving her fiancé and a man he had met on the internet.
Zarian Dyer, 23, was arrested on Thursday 29 October and faces allegations including aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and conspiracy. Detectives say he arranged for Adrian Ayala, 20, to attack his fiancée at the family home. The incident took place at about 6pm on 16 October near Southern Avenue and Miller Road. The woman was at home with her two children when an unknown man entered and attacked her, police said.
She fought off the intruder, who fled before officers arrived. Security footage later captured the struggle in the driveway, while investigators were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle and part of its number plate.
Ayala was identified by detectives and arrested at his home in Goodyear the following day. Police say he told investigators that he had met the woman’s fiancé online and agreed to sexually assault her.
Investigators seized electronic devices belonging to both Ayala and Dyer. Data recovered from the devices allegedly showed the two men communicating about the planned attack, although police say the motive remains unclear. Arizona’s Family reported that, in footage of the assault, Ayala could be heard telling the woman that her partner had sent him as part of an agreement made on Reddit. Ayala’s lawyer later argued in court that he had been invited to the property as part of a role-play scenario. Dyer was arrested while at work near Roosevelt Street and Verrado Way, according to Buckeye Police. His booking details were not immediately available.
Carissa Planalp, a spokeswoman for the Buckeye Police Department, said the incident had been “a terrifying ordeal” for the woman and her young children.
Police praised the victim for quickly reporting the attack and providing details that helped investigators identify Ayala. Both men remain accused of offences and the allegations have not been tested in court.
