Tyson Fury has said he will invite Donald Trump to lead his ring walk before his fight against Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on 11 December.
Fury described the US president as an “old buddy” and “old pal”, while acknowledging that Trump’s duties in the White House could make an appearance unlikely.
“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, old pal, and we’ll see if he’s available,” Fury was quoted as saying by British media.
“Probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the president of the United States.”
The proposed Tyson Fury invitation to Donald Trump comes after the pair met at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House in June. Fury attended wearing a cap bearing the words “Donald Trump for Prime Minister”, after his US travel ban had been lifted by the president.
Fury and Joshua are due to meet at the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium, with Fury keen for Trump to join his procession to the ring.
The former heavyweight champion has also insisted the bout will not mark the end of his career. Fury said he regarded the Joshua contest as preparation for a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk, who has beaten him twice.
“I don’t have any intention of retiring after Joshua. I’m using this as a warm-up for Usyk,” he said.
Fury added: “I can guarantee that on the night when I knock him spark out, he won’t know what time it is. And then I want the rabbit [Usyk] in New York City.”
