Howie Mandel says he does not know whether America’s Got Talent will leave Los Angeles, as he has yet to be offered a contract for the programme’s next season.
The comedian said he had not been asked to return when he was approached at his podcast studio in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday. He suggested that the other judges may not have been offered contracts either.
America’s Got Talent could reportedly move production to Atlanta, and Mandel said he would be prepared to travel if that became necessary. However, he made clear that he would prefer to remain in Los Angeles and sleep in his own bed.
He also suggested that his company, Proto Hologram, could create a hologram version of him for the programme. The idea, he said, could help reduce travel costs if the show leaves Los Angeles.
Mandel described the prospect of productions moving away from the city as unfortunate and said the departures appeared to have a greater impact on California’s economy than many people might realise.
For now, however, the entertainer’s future on America’s Got Talent remains undecided, with no confirmed agreement for the next season.
