Kate Cassidy has shared a nostalgic video of herself with Liam Payne to mark the second anniversary of the One Direction singer’s death.
The US influencer, who dated Payne for two years, posted the clip on Thursday with the message: “2 years ago. Miss you!!!”
Cassidy has continued to remember Payne on social media since his death, including in July 2025 when she described him as her “best friend” and said she was still struggling to accept that she would never see him again.
Liam Payne’s death in Buenos Aires
Payne died aged 31 on October 16, 2024, after falling from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He had been staying at the hotel for three days while visiting his former bandmate Niall Horan, who was in the country on tour. Police were called after hotel staff reported hearing a loud sound in the courtyard.
Emergency services pronounced Payne dead at the scene, saying there had been “no possibility of resuscitation”. An autopsy found multiple traumas and internal and external haemorrhaging, with 25 injuries consistent with a fall from a great height.
Toxicology tests later found traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his body. Authorities ruled out self-harm and physical intervention by a third party.
Payne was buried at a private funeral at St Mary’s Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, on November 20, 2024. Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik attended separately.
Kate Cassidy’s tribute to Liam Payne
Cassidy had been staying with Payne in Buenos Aires but left the country days before his death. She later said she had returned to Florida to care for the couple’s rescue dog, Nala.
In her first interview after Payne’s death, Cassidy said: “I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur.”
She described his death as a “tragic accident” and said she believed it was an accident rather than suicide.
Some social media users have criticised Cassidy for sharing memories of Payne and unfairly blamed her for leaving Argentina. Others responded to her latest tribute by saying they would “forever miss” the singer and urging her to “take care”.
