Corie Walsh shared a series of previously unseen Facebook photographs of her two-year-old son before his death, including one image in which prosecutors say he appeared terrified beside his siblings.
Walsh, from Illinois, is accused of killing Barrett, whom she referred to as “Bear” in another post. Prosecutors have also alleged that she was obsessed with the Lindsay Clancy trial.
The Christmas Eve photographs showed Barrett and his siblings wearing matching pyjamas. In the caption, Walsh wrote: “PSA: There was no harming of [Barrett] while posing for photos despite the look of sheer terror on his face.”
In a separate birthday post, Walsh described how her son had changed after becoming a big brother. “He’s grown leaps and bounds since becoming a big brother but still rests his head on my shoulder, when I’m carrying him up for bed, reminding me of how little he is,” she wrote.
The affectionate messages are consistent with the account of a former high school friend, who described Walsh as “beautiful, kind, intelligent, talented and giving” during her teenage years.
Prosecutors allege Walsh planned to kill her husband when he returned home after she had allegedly killed Barrett.
They say Barrett’s body was discovered by two other children living at the house, who then ran to contact a neighbour.
Walsh’s lawyer, Andrea Lyon, has said her client was experiencing a severe mental health crisis at the time of Barrett’s death.
