Liverpool are preparing for January offers for Florian Wirtz, but the club are expected to reject any approach for the Germany international despite growing interest from Bayern Munich.
Wirtz, 23, has endured a difficult start to his second season at Anfield after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 in a deal worth an initial £100 million, potentially rising to £116m.

Bayern’s interest is longstanding. The German club were serious contenders for Wirtz before Liverpool secured his signature and have continued to keep track of his situation.
The renewed speculation has been fuelled by the midfielder’s limited attacking return. He recorded 15 goal contributions in 49 appearances during his first Liverpool campaign, but has provided only one assist in five competitive matches this term.
Wirtz is also without a goal in his last 12 competitive appearances for club and country, prompting clubs across Europe to believe that a future move could become possible.
However, Liverpool’s preference is to retain the player. The club do not regard his current form as proof that the transfer has failed and are understood to believe he can still develop into a key figure at Anfield.
Manager Andoni Iraola is continuing to experiment with Wirtz’s role as he searches for the best way to use him. The German was particularly effective at Leverkusen when operating between the lines, combining around the penalty area and moving into central areas, but Liverpool have not consistently provided him with the same platform.
A sale would also carry financial risks for Liverpool, given the size of their investment only a year after his arrival. Wirtz’s value is unlikely to be at its peak while he is struggling to score, while former Reds midfielder Vladimir Smicer has urged the club not to sell him to Bayern Munich.
