The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has opened in Los Angeles, showcasing illustration and design works drawn from magazines, comics, fantasy stories and motion pictures.
Founded by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, and his wife, businesswoman Mellody Hobson, the new institution places storytelling art at the centre of its collection.
The museum focuses on the work of illustrators whose images communicate mythic narratives and stories about shared humanity.
Its displays include art connected to printed publications, comic books, fantasy and motion picture design, highlighting the role of visual storytelling in shaping how audiences understand the world.
Lucas and Hobson discussed the emotional appeal of narrative art in an interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell.
