A 25-year-old man has been killed in a southwest Atlanta shooting that police believe followed an argument at an apartment complex.
Officers were called to the 3,200 block of Cushman Circle SW at about 1.42pm on Sunday, September 27, after reports that someone had been shot.
When police arrived, they were told a woman had taken the injured man to hospital. Minutes later, officers were sent to the 1,100 block of Michael Langford Drive SW, near Pryor Road, following a second report of gunfire.
Emergency medical workers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene. Atlanta police said the two reports were linked to the same incident.
Investigators believe the shooting began during an altercation, but the circumstances leading to the dispute have not been disclosed.
No suspect had been identified or arrested as of Sunday evening. Police have also not released the victim’s name.
Witness Koia Duncan said the killing had left people in the community grieving.
“At the end of the day, that’s somebody’s child,” Duncan said. “Whatever life you live, there’s always somebody out there that loves you, is in love with you and can’t live without you. When it’s all said and done, we have to learn to let peace be still.”
Cine Wendy, who said she had moved to Atlanta three days earlier, was unable to collect a DoorDash order after police cordoned off the area.
“It’s crazy for our community,” Wendy said. “It is pretty crazy to be down here, and it’s my third day, and it’s the second shooting I’ve heard about.”
The investigation remains under way, with detectives working to establish what led to the argument and whether anyone else was involved.
