Milwaukee is set for one more mild day before rain, strong winds and a sharp fall in temperatures sweep across southern Wisconsin, with frost possible by the weekend, forecasters say.
Tuesday is expected to remain mostly sunny and reach about 76F, although a brisk west-north-west wind will make conditions feel cooler at times. Showers, with an isolated thunderstorm possible, may develop overnight, mainly south of Interstate 94 and close to the Illinois border.
Rob Haswell, chief meteorologist at FOX6, said the spell of warmer weather would be short-lived as a more unsettled pattern moves in. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee-Sullivan is also forecasting showers and isolated thunderstorms along the Wisconsin-Illinois border on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee weather forecast turns colder
Wednesday should bring a brief respite, with early showers giving way to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low 60s. The more substantial change is expected on Thursday, when rain is likely across the area and a few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.
The National Weather Service puts the chance of rain at between 60 and 80 per cent from Thursday into Thursday night. Temperatures are expected to reach about 60F before falling as the system moves through.
Much colder air will arrive on Friday, accompanied by north-west winds of between 30 and 40mph. Despite mostly sunny skies, the temperature is forecast to struggle to around 54F, while overnight lows could fall into the mid-30s.
Saturday is expected to be sunny but chilly, with highs in the 50s. Frost is likely in the morning and a freeze is possible inland, while temperatures may again drop close to freezing overnight.
Conditions should begin to moderate on Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 62F. However, south-westerly winds could reach 15 to 25mph before a gradual warm-up early next week.
