A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after an armed carjacking in Minneapolis ended with a stolen vehicle striking a police squad car and an officer firing a weapon.
The incident unfolded at about 4.45pm on Thursday, 8 October, after police were called to West 31st Street and Pillsbury Avenue following reports of a person with a gun.
According to Minneapolis police, the suspect first attempted to take a vehicle at gunpoint, but the driver managed to escape. He then allegedly carjacked another motorist and fled in the stolen car.

Officers tracked the vehicle to Pleasant Avenue, where a marked squad car stopped mid-block to intercept it. Police said the stolen car made contact with the squad car, during which one officer fired a single shot.
The suspect ran from the vehicle and was arrested nearby. He was taken to hospital for medical evaluation, according to local reports.
Minneapolis police said two officers suffered minor injuries. One sustained a small cut to the face and another suffered a minor ankle injury. The officer who fired the weapon was not hurt.
No one was struck by the gunfire, police said. The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not yet been fully established.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation into the officer’s use of the weapon. The state agency will review the events leading up to the shot and the subsequent arrest.
