Sahibzada Farhan has been appointed Pakistan’s new Twenty20 captain, replacing Salman Ali Agha ahead of the three-match home series against Sri Lanka.
Farhan led Pakistan to a silver medal at the Asian Games, where they lost to India by 19 runs in Sunday’s final. The series against Sri Lanka will be played in Rawalpindi from October 9 to 13.
Hasan Nawaz and fast bowler Naseem Shah have been recalled to the T20 squad. Nawaz had been out of favour since November but struck 96 in the Asian Games final before being dismissed from the final ball.
Naseem last played T20 cricket at the World Cup in February. He has also been included in Pakistan’s one-day international squad for the tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England, which begins on October 18.
Razaullah has been selected for both squads after impressing on his Test debut against England in Birmingham last month. The rising player is yet to make his white-ball debut.
Shaheen Afridi remains Pakistan ODI captain
Shaheen Shah Afridi has retained the ODI captaincy, with Salman Ali Agha and Babar Azam included in the squad. Mohammad Rizwan has not been selected while he is under investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority.
Khawaja Nafay is the specialist wicketkeeper in the T20 squad, while Ghazi Ghori, who made his Test debut in England, is the first-choice wicketkeeper for the ODIs.
Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait has also been named Pakistan’s bowling coach after a recent spell with Bangladesh. He replaces Ashley Noffke, who has taken up a contract with the Netherlands.

The ODI squad comprises Shaheen Afridi, Abrar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Ghazi Ghori, Haris Rauf, Hasan Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saad Baig, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan and Sufiyan Moqim.
