A magnitude 6 earthquake has struck Panama, days after a stronger tremor damaged hundreds of homes and infrastructure across the country’s central provinces.
The latest earthquake hit on Monday at a depth of 35km, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
It followed Friday’s magnitude 7.7 earthquake, which prompted the Panamanian government to declare a national state of emergency over the weekend.
More than 300 aftershocks have been recorded since Friday’s quake. No deaths have been reported, but at least 27 people were injured and nearly 900 homes were damaged, emergency authorities said.
Authorities warned that those figures could rise as assessments continue in remote communities.
Los Santos, Cocle, Veraguas and Herrera are among the provinces worst affected by the earlier earthquake.
