Thousands of families descended on Claremont Showground for the second day of the Perth Royal Show, turning the annual event into a colourful mix of rides, games, farm animals and show bags.
Visitors navigated the attractions on Sunday as they searched for sweet treats and novelty prizes, with children also taking part in interactive activities at AgVenture Hill and the animal nursery.
Jessica Penner, from Mandurah, has been a member of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA for 25 years and makes the annual journey with her family.
“Our grandparents had a fish aquarium, and my mum has been at the animal nursery . . . so we are seasoned people, and we absolutely love the Show,” she said.
Ms Penner said this year’s event had offered plenty for families to see and do. Her sons Lucas, eight, and Nicholas, seven, selected Pranks ‘n’ More show bags, which included the chance to receive an additional prize such as a skateboard, basketball or toy gun.
Nicholas also braved a dragon-themed ride after initially feeling frightened.
“It was fun, it was new for me because I was a bit scared. Now I’m not scared because I went on it,” he said.
Emma Van Der Linden attended with her ten-year-old twin daughters, Isla and Quinn, who had saved their pocket money throughout the year to spend at the Perth Royal Show.
“It’s our tradition, we come every year, and the girls save up coins throughout the whole year, and then we count it up and they use that to pay for the Show,” she said.
“It’s just a fun family day out of old-fashioned fun.”
Teenagers Trinity Karaka, 17, and Sam Lee, 18, described the day as “bloody fun” after winning a giant plush cow. They said they were already considering show bags including Zappo and Bertie Beetle.
Ms Karaka said the pair had also visited the petting zoo, where they saw guinea pigs.
“We went to the petting zoo, that was really fun, the guinea pigs were really cute and the line was very fast as well, I didn’t expect it to be that fast,” she said.
