Florence Pugh has reposted her statement about alleged sexual violence involving seven Cornell University fraternity members after claiming Instagram had restricted its visibility.
The actress shared a screenshot of her Instagram dashboard showing the original post greyed out with a crossed-out eye symbol. She then published the statement again, saying Instagram had “decided to block my post from getting in front of the right people”.
“Tut tut tut. Oh dear. That doesn’t look great does it?” Pugh wrote.
She said she wanted people who could no longer see the Florence Pugh Instagram post to have another opportunity to read it. Instagram has not explained why the post was allegedly blocked from wider distribution.
In her original statement, Pugh said allegations against seven Cornell fraternity members had left her feeling “uneasy and sick and anxious”. She called on men to be as horrified as women, described the alleged assault as the “killing of a soul” and criticised universities for repeatedly failing women.
A lawsuit claims the seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity drugged a woman with ketamine and raped her while she was unconscious. It further alleges that one member invited others upstairs in a group chat by writing “free p***y”.
The criminal case has since been reopened by the Tompkins County District Attorney.
