The NCIS stars who have died are being remembered as the long-running television franchise prepares to return for its 24th season.
The CBS procedural and its spin-offs have featured hundreds of actors in starring, recurring and guest roles over more than two decades. Several performers who became familiar figures in the NCIS universe have since passed away.
Ahead of the season 24 premiere on Tuesday October 6, a retrospective is looking back at 12 actors from NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles, including the characters they played and their contributions to the franchise.
