A PLANE has crashed into a wheat field in Essex in what police are calling a “serious incident”.
Police raced to the village of Ongar after a call at 12:30pm said a small aircraft had plummeted into a field near Mill Lane.
This is a serious incident, and we understand it will cause concern in the local community”, said Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of Essex Police.
“We are working closely with emergency service partners to respond and ensure the area is safe. There will be a visible police presence as we deal with this incident.”
Horrifying photos show the mangled wreckage of the plane.
Information about casualties has not yet been made public.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch have launched an investigation into the terrifying accident.
“A team of inspectors are on their way to the accident site”, a spokesperson confirmed.
Police urge residents to avoid Mill Lane and “thank them for their patience and understanding”.
