Taylor Swift arrived solo at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, where she received the inaugural Artist Director Honors while husband Travis Kelce was absent from the ceremony.
The 36-year-old singer made her entrance in a two-toned gown featuring a black sleeveless bodice and a sparkling silver skirt draped across her hips. A mesh panel at the back drew attention to her waist, while rhinestone-covered heels added height to her already statuesque frame.
Swift completed the look with dangling earrings, her wedding band and the engagement ring valued at $550,000 that was given to her by Kelce. She also appeared to have introduced a shorter, wispy fringe, worn with sleek shoulder-length hair.
Fans chanted “Mrs. Kelce” as she made her way towards the red carpet, following arrivals including Charli XCX, Tyla and Lisa Rinna.
Kelce, meanwhile, was in Miami, Florida, with his NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs. The team played the Miami Dolphins earlier in the day.

Swift’s appearance came days after the release of The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore, a surprise deluxe edition of her 2025 album containing four additional songs.
Among the new tracks is Cleveland, described as a love song for Kelce and a reference to his Ohio hometown. The other songs are Pink Clouding, Babylon and Patient Zero.
The deluxe release has received a score of 39 on Metacritic, categorised as “generally unfavorable reviews”. Swift had said the songs were written “out of pure gratitude” for fans’ enthusiasm for the original album.
The music video for Patient Zero premiered at the VMAs after Swift accepted the Artist Director Honors.
The award recognises artists with a sustained and influential body of work who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a distinctive directorial voice. Swift has directed 18 of the roughly 60 music videos she has made during her career.
Accepting the award, she said: “I’ve gotten to be a part of making 60 music videos roughly.” She added that she loved writing and directing videos because “you the fans make it so much fun.”
The honour also made Swift the sole record-holder for the most MTV Video Music Awards, breaking her tie with Beyoncé. Both artists had entered the ceremony with 30 awards each, but Beyoncé had no nominations this year.
Swift was also nominated in nine categories, including Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia. She was competing against Madonna, who led the nominations with 11, while Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter received seven each.
