Nogales has recorded more rain than any other Arizona city or town during the 2026 monsoon season, with rainfall in the border community reaching slightly more than 10 inches.
The total puts Nogales ahead of larger centres including Tucson and Phoenix as the summer storm season approaches its official end. Meteorologist Krystal Ortiz examined the figures for FOX 10 Phoenix as thunderstorm activity begins to ease across the state.
Rainfall has been uneven across Arizona, with parts of south-eastern Arizona receiving repeated heavy downpours while other areas have seen only limited precipitation. Sierra Vista recorded about 8.66 inches during the monsoon, while Tucson’s total remained considerably lower.
The National Weather Service has warned that intense storms can produce large amounts of rain in a short period, increasing the risk of flash flooding. Heavy rainfall in July caused flooding in and around Nogales, prompting Santa Cruz County officials to declare an emergency.
Arizona’s monsoon season officially runs from June 15 to September 30, although the weather pattern can weaken before the formal end date. Forecast conditions are expected to become generally drier as the 2026 season winds down next week.
