Arsenal’s interest in Julian Alvarez could be revived after the Atletico Madrid forward began reconsidering how his future is managed, although a January transfer remains far from certain.
Fabrizio Romano said the 26-year-old is preparing to make changes within his camp following a difficult summer. The development may give Arsenal another opportunity to assess a deal after they failed to sign the Argentina international during the previous transfer window.
Julian Alvarez transfer situation remains unclear
Alvarez had reportedly prioritised a move to Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid were unwilling to sanction his departure to their Spanish rivals. Arsenal maintained an interest and are understood to be ready to revisit the situation in January.
The forward would offer Mikel Arteta’s side attacking versatility, intelligent movement and a proven record of scoring at the highest level. His previous experience in the Premier League is also viewed as an appealing factor for the north London club.
However, Romano has urged caution over the latest development. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said Alvarez was “ready to make a change in his camp after the summer” in an effort to alter the strategy and the people handling his future.
Romano stressed that the change should not be taken as confirmation that Alvarez is about to leave Atletico Madrid in January. “If you ask me about the January window,” he said, “the answer from everyone involved, from Julian’s side, from the club side, from everyone, is: ‘Let Julian play football. Leave Julian alone.’”
For now, those close to the player are focused on allowing him to concentrate on football after what Romano described as a difficult summer. Arsenal’s interest remains, but the forward’s immediate future has yet to be decided.
