Manchester United could revisit their interest in Alejandro Balde in January, with reports claiming Barcelona are now prepared to consider a loan move for the left-back.
The 22-year-old has made only one first-team appearance this season after falling down Hansi Flick’s pecking order. With regular football proving difficult to secure, a temporary departure is understood to have become a more realistic option.
Balde had wanted to remain at Barcelona during the summer, but the lack of playing time has changed the situation. Manchester United are among the clubs reported to have been approached about a possible deal.

Liverpool have also reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Balde, while Sunderland, Everton and Fulham are said to have been contacted by intermediaries.
The defender’s only appearance this term came in the closing stages of Barcelona’s 7-2 win over Racing Santander, when he played the final 12 minutes. He is currently behind Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo in the pecking order, with Gerard Martin also competing for opportunities.
Balde’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2028, although no extension talks have taken place. The club are also understood to be considering signing another left-back in 2027, adding further uncertainty over his long-term position.
A loan would allow Manchester United to assess Balde without making a major permanent commitment. The club considered him during the summer before directing their spending elsewhere, and a temporary deal could provide an opportunity to judge how he adapts to English football.
There is also a separate report claiming that United and Liverpool have both been approached over a potential move.
Balde remains a quick, ball-carrying full-back with the ability to progress play, and his age leaves scope for him to recover the form that once marked him out as one of Barcelona’s most promising academy graduates.
His limited football this season would nevertheless represent a risk, with any interested club investing in his potential rather than his current level of form. If Barcelona do sanction a January loan, it could give Balde the regular minutes he needs while offering Manchester United a relatively low-risk opportunity.
