Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Estevao Willian’s situation at Chelsea as the teenager’s opportunities under Xabi Alonso remain limited at the start of his second season.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Chelsea’s most promising players, but he has yet to start a Premier League match this term. According to Sport, the Catalan club are watching closely as frustration is reported to be growing around his restricted involvement.
Estevao has made four league appearances but played only 23 minutes in total. Across all competitions, he has featured eight times and accumulated 245 minutes.
Barcelona monitoring Estevao’s limited Chelsea role
The reduced playing time represents a significant change from his encouraging first campaign at Stamford Bridge. He scored eight goals and provided three assists in 36 appearances, including a memorable Champions League goal against Barcelona.
There is currently no indication that Chelsea want to sell the Brazil international. However, his lack of Premier League minutes has raised questions about the size of his role under Alonso and the clarity of his route into the team.
Estevao has not publicly suggested that he is seeking a move. While away with Brazil, he said he was focused on the aspects of his game he could control and would continue working to earn further opportunities.
His return to regular football has also followed a serious hamstring injury that ruled him out of the 2026 World Cup, meaning his limited involvement comes after a lengthy period of disruption.
Chelsea are not thought to have reason to consider a permanent departure at this stage, with Estevao having already shown his ability to influence major matches. The situation could nevertheless become more significant if his opportunities remain largely confined to cup fixtures and late substitute appearances.
How Alonso uses the Brazilian between now and December is likely to shape the speculation. Increased involvement would ease concerns, while continued restrictions could encourage Barcelona and other clubs to assess whether there is an opportunity to pursue him.
