Chris Hansen is no longer married to Mary Joan Hansen, with the former couple separating in 2018 before he married Gabrielle Gagnon three years later.
Their relationship is explored in the new film Primetime, which portrays Hansen’s marriage as strained during his years presenting To Catch a Predator. The film also depicts an alleged affair and shows Mary learning about it during the final scene.

Hansen and Mary Joan married in 1989 and had two sons, Chase, born in 1992, and Connor, born in 1994.
Mary Joan filed for divorce in June 2018. In the paperwork, she said: “the marriage has broken down irretrievably.”
Months later, Hansen was reported to have been evicted from his New York City home and arrested and charged with issuing bad cheques.
The alleged Chris Hansen affair
The film places the alleged affair during the production of To Catch a Predator, suggesting it took place around the time of the programme’s final sting in 2008.
However, the National Enquirer’s report about an alleged relationship with television reporter Kristyn Caddell appeared in 2011. Caddell said Hansen had told her that divorce was inevitable and that his wedding ring was “all but for the show”.
“Over the next several months, our friendship evolved into a whirlwind romance,” she said. “As far as I was concerned, none of it was being done secretly or concealed from the public.”
People close to Hansen denied the affair at the time. Years later, he dismissed the allegations in an interview with Mel Magazine, saying: “To equate having dinner with a friend to somebody committing a felony is neither fair nor a conversation worth having. In reality, it was a whole lot of nothing.”
