Chelsea are accelerating their efforts to sign Palmeiras teenager Eduardo Conceicao, with the club seeking to establish itself as the early favourite for one of the most sought-after young players in world football.
The 16-year-old forward has attracted comparisons with Neymar because of his style of play. His emergence has also invited parallels with former Palmeiras teenagers Endrick and Estevao Willian, both of whom moved to major European clubs after making their mark in Brazil.
Chelsea have held a series of contacts with Palmeiras and are keen to remain closely involved in Conceicao’s situation until he turns 18. The club’s previous relationship with the Brazilian side could prove significant in any future negotiations.
Manchester City’s wider City Group has also been in contact, although there is understood to be uncertainty surrounding the club’s transfer activity while the ongoing charges case against it remains unresolved.
For now, Chelsea and City are the only clubs understood to have made contact to be kept informed of the player’s position. Palmeiras’ high asking price could rise further if interest develops into a wider bidding contest.
Chelsea’s investment of around £51 million in Estevao is regarded as a useful benchmark for the potential cost of Conceicao. Scouts at several of Europe’s leading clubs believe the latest Palmeiras prospect could be an even bigger talent.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all monitored the teenager, creating the prospect of strong competition for his signature.
However, the timing of any deal may favour Chelsea. Other interested clubs could be reluctant to pay a substantial fee for a player who cannot realistically join their first-team squad until January 2028.
Chelsea have repeatedly shown a willingness to invest heavily in young players well before they are ready for an immediate first-team role. That approach has not always delivered the desired outcome, but it could give the club an advantage in the race for Eduardo Conceicao.
