The actor, known for his charm, acting ability and appearance, went on to build a successful career that included playing Superman in the DC Universe. He had been planning to reprise the role before changes linked to the franchise’s rebranding altered those plans.
Before securing the Superman part, Cavill auditioned for a number of high-profile projects. The roles formed part of a series of missed opportunities involving A-list films over the course of his career.
Age was a factor in at least three of the decisions. Cavill was considered too old for two of the roles, while he was judged too young for another.
