Jon Watts is reportedly being considered to direct a new Star Wars film from the trilogy being developed by Simon Kinberg for Lucasfilm.
The potential appointment was reported by Knights Edge Media, which said its information came from two sources. Lucasfilm has not confirmed that Watts is attached to the project.
Watts is already associated with the franchise as co-creator of the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. He also directed the first three Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland, although not the forthcoming film Brand New Day.
Could Jon Watts direct Star Wars: Episode X?
Knights Edge Media describes the prospective film as Star Wars: Episode X and says Watts is being considered specifically for that project. The report also raises the possibility that Daisy Ridley could return as Rey, but Lucasfilm has not announced those details in connection with a Watts-directed film.
The trilogy’s relationship with the wider Skywalker Saga has remained unclear since Kinberg’s involvement was first reported in 2024. An initial account described plans centred on new characters and a new story, without confirming whether the films would continue the existing saga.
The development comes after another Star Wars film was reported to have been scrapped earlier this summer.
