Parramatta Eels player Josh Addo-Carr allegedly tested positive for cocaine during a random roadside drug test in Sydney’s inner west.
New South Wales Police said a 31-year-old man was stopped on Enmore Road in Newtown at about 11pm on Friday. An oral fluid sample has been sent for further forensic analysis.
Addo-Carr has not been charged and the police investigation remains ongoing.
The Parramatta Eels said they had notified the NRL Integrity Unit and were co-operating with the appropriate processes.
“The Parramatta Eels are aware of an alleged incident involving Josh Addo-Carr,” the club said in a statement released on Saturday afternoon.
“The Club has notified the NRL Integrity Unit and is co-operating with the appropriate processes, as well as providing welfare support to Josh and his family.
“The Parramatta Eels will not be commenting further until the matter has been finalised.”
Addo-Carr was sacked by the Canterbury Bulldogs two years ago after returning a positive result for cocaine in a roadside drug test. He denied taking illegal substances at the time.
