Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is targeting a return to competitive action in December as he continues his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The France international has made encouraging progress six months after suffering the injury against Paris Saint-Germain in April, according to L’Équipe. He has now begun light trotting on the pitch as he works through the next stage of his rehabilitation.
Ekitike recently travelled to the United States to consult a medical specialist about his recovery milestones. The assessment confirmed that he remains on schedule.
Hugo Ekitike return targeted for December
The forward hopes to rejoin team training in November, with a place in Liverpool’s matchday squad potentially following in December.
Recovery from an Achilles tendon injury can vary according to an individual’s progress and physical response. Ekitike’s planned return therefore remains subject to how he feels as rehabilitation continues.
The latest update will offer encouragement to Liverpool, who have been managing uncertainty in attack. Cody Gakpo suffered a fresh injury while on international duty with the Netherlands against Serbia, adding to the club’s concerns over their forward options.
Ekitike had enjoyed a productive first season at Liverpool before being sidelined, finishing the 2025–26 campaign as the club’s leading Premier League scorer with 11 goals.
A return before the congested winter period would give Liverpool additional attacking support as Ekitike seeks to complete his recovery.
