A 32-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder after the bodies of two men were found at the same property in Gurranang, in northern New South Wales, two weeks apart.
Police were first called to the house on Summerland Way on September 13, when the body of a 79-year-old man was discovered inside the home.
Detectives returned to the property on Monday afternoon as part of their investigation and found the body of another man, believed to be aged 59, inside a shed.
NSW Police Superintendent Joanne Schultz said officers “did not anticipate what they found”. She said it was “evident those people have met with foul play”.
Superintendent Schultz said the 59-year-old was not from Gurranang and had been visiting the property. Police believe he died within the previous 24 to 48 hours.
Officers investigating under Strike Force Faneel, with assistance from the homicide squad, arrested the 32-year-old at a hospital in Grafton shortly after midday on Tuesday.
He was taken to Grafton police station and charged with two counts of murder and stealing a motor vehicle. Police bail was refused and he is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
