Investigators in Arizona are examining a possible new ransom note in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as the Pima County Sheriff’s Office works with the FBI to establish whether it is genuine.
The sheriff’s office said it had recently been made aware of the note, as well as social media comments referring to it. Its contents have not been released.
Ms Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her home in Tucson in the early hours of 1 February 2026. A masked person was captured on a doorbell camera near the property before the abduction, and the FBI later released footage of the suspect.
She has not been seen since. Ms Guthrie is the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie.
One of two alleged ransom notes linked to the suspected kidnapper or kidnappers claimed that Nancy Guthrie was dead. Her family has said it believes that note is genuine and has publicly appealed for her remains to be returned.
News outlets, including TMZ, received the purported ransom notes and passed them to the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation had appeared to lose momentum, but the latest possible lead has prompted renewed scrutiny of the case.
