Three friends of Nolan Wells have filed a defamation lawsuit in Mississippi against a TikTok creator who allegedly accused them of killing him during a boating trip.
Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour claim Sandra L. Butler, who allegedly operates the TikTok account “gods_bestgirl” and identifies herself as “Royalty”, repeatedly made the accusations online.
The men say Butler alleged that they killed Wells aboard a boat on July 4, fled the scene, tampered with his phone and lied to conceal the alleged crime.
In the lawsuit, they claim she told her followers: “They are guilty. They did something.” She later allegedly said one of the men picked Wells up and slammed him on to the boat.
Hudson, Pitalo and Seymour deny any involvement in Wells’ death and say he was their close friend.
Wells’ death remained undetermined
Wells disappeared during a Fourth of July boating trip to Mississippi’s Horn Island. His body was found floating in the water two days later.
A Jackson County grand jury later returned a “no true bill”, meaning that no criminal charges were filed. The panel said the circumstances surrounding Wells’ death were consistent with drowning, although the official manner of death remained undetermined.
The lawsuit says the investigation involved 132 subpoenas and testimony from 43 witnesses. The plaintiffs allege that Butler continued posting about them after the grand jury’s decision, describing their account of events as “a story to cover their tracks” and claiming that someone had accessed and deleted information from Wells’ phone.
The three men are seeking damages and an injunction that would prevent Butler from posting about them, contacting them or disclosing their private information.
