Actor Dennis Haskins died from Parkinson’s disease, his death certificate states. He died on September 27 at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank, according to the document issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
The certificate also lists irritable bowel syndrome, depression, hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia as other significant conditions.
Haskins had not publicly disclosed that he was living with Parkinson’s disease before his death. His former wife, Sarah Quinones, said he had withdrawn from close friends and confidants in recent years because he did not want them to know about his illnesses.
She said Haskins spent his final years in an assisted-living facility and stopped returning calls and text messages from her and other friends.
Haskins was best known for playing Principal Richard Belding in Saved by the Bell and several of its spin-off series. His other credits included The Dukes of Hazzard, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The West Wing, Victorious and A Million Ways to Die in the West.
His agent, Jay Schachter, said: “It’s a tragic loss. Everyone loved Mr. Belding and those of us who got to know Dennis, loved him even more. He was a great person, and he loved, I mean absolutely LOVED his fans.”
