A person has been found dead near the Alma Mater statue on the University of Illinois Urbana campus, prompting a police investigation.
Officers were called to the area of Green and Wright streets in Urbana at about 6.42am on Monday, the University of Illinois Police Department said.
The identity of the person has not been released, and authorities have not said how they died or whether foul play is suspected.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated there was no ongoing threat to the campus community.
The investigation remains under way. Further information will be released once it has been confirmed, police said.
