Amazon is rolling out same-day delivery in Perth, with Prime customers able to receive selected orders at their homes in as little as five hours.
The service begins on Tuesday and covers hundreds of thousands of products. Eligible Amazon Prime orders worth more than $49 will qualify at no extra cost.
Customers ordering by 8am can receive their purchases between 2pm and 6pm. Orders placed by midday are scheduled for delivery between 5pm and 10pm, while those made before 10pm can arrive between 4am and 8am the following morning.
The expansion follows research showing that 54 per cent of Perth customers wait at least three business days for online purchases to arrive. It brings the city in line with Melbourne and Sydney, where Amazon already offers the faster delivery service.
Arno Lenior, Amazon Australia’s director of Prime, said delivery speed was increasingly important to customers.
“Speed and convenience are at the heart of our delivery investment in Australia,” he said.
“Starting today, we’re rolling out new afternoon, evening, and overnight delivery windows to Perth Prime members on a huge selection of products.”
He added: “So, whether you’re ordering a last-minute birthday present before bed and finding it at your door by morning or grabbing a replacement at lunch and having it by evening customers will increasingly have the speed, selection, and flexibility to shop on their own terms, at no extra cost on eligible orders over $49.”
The delivery changes are also expected to help local businesses move products more quickly. Research by YouGov found that 83 per cent of Perth residents consider free or fast delivery the biggest factor when choosing to shop online.
