The alleged gang rape case involving Cornell University is set to move forward this week, with Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten expected to meet Jane Doe and her lawyer.
Mr Van Houten said he had been in contact with the woman’s legal team about her potential co-operation with the grand jury process and what it would involve.
“My hope is that we will connect with him and Jane Doe as early as tomorrow and start that process,” he told People on Tuesday.
The development follows criticism from Jane Doe’s lawyer of Cornell officials’ handling of the allegations. She is said to have reported the alleged incident to police in 2024, shortly afterwards, but law enforcement concluded that a crime had not occurred.
The criminal investigation was reopened after Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit this month alleging that seven Chi Phi fraternity members raped her. The allegations have not been proven.
No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the case.
