Talyn Vigil, a defendant charged over the death of Preston Lord, has been returned to jail after prosecutors sought to revoke his pre-trial release following three arrests while he was out on bond.
Vigil was booked in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, and is being held on a cash-only bond of $2 million. A judge ruled that, if he posts it, he will be subject to electronic monitoring, house arrest and alcohol and drug testing.
The decision followed a hearing over whether Vigil had breached the conditions of his release. Judge Sam J Myers had previously requested further evidence, including a police report, body-camera footage and ankle-monitor data, before deciding whether a violation had taken place.
Vigil’s latest arrest was in September, when Tempe police accused him of reckless driving and racing motorcycles near Arizona State University. He also faced an earlier reckless-driving case in Gilbert and was arrested in 2025 over an alleged breach of an order of protection.
Prosecutors argued that the repeated arrests showed Vigil had failed to comply with the terms of his release. His lawyer disputed the allegations and opposed the request to keep him in custody, arguing that the latest incident did not justify revoking his bond.
Vigil was indicted in March 2024 on charges including first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with the death of 16-year-old Lord at a Halloween party in Queen Creek in October 2023. Vigil has denied the allegations.
His next court hearing is scheduled for October 14.
