Reba McEntire has revealed that she missed a phone call from Dolly Parton shortly before the country music star died, and was unable to reconnect with her.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, McEntire said Parton called her in late July while she was in a meeting. “She did call me the last of July, and I was in a meeting and I missed her call,” she said.
McEntire tried to return the call but said the pair “never made a connection”.
When a friend later told her that Parton had died, McEntire said she realised she would never discover why Parton had wanted to speak to her.
“My buddy called me and said, ‘Dolly’s gone,’ I thought, ‘I’ll never know why she called me,’” she said.
Parton died aged 80 in August after being diagnosed with cancer. Her sister Stella said the illness had been kept secret from some family members.
