Manchester United have not contacted other coaches despite the pressure surrounding Michael Carrick, Fabrizio Romano has said, with the club continuing to back their manager.
Romano addressed the speculation during the international break after being repeatedly asked whether Carrick’s position at Old Trafford was under threat.
“My answer is clear, guys. As of today, Manchester United have not made any movement to contact other coaches,” he said in a video.
Romano added that there were currently no direct conversations between Manchester United and alternative coaches or their representatives, and that the situation was expected to remain quiet for the coming weeks.
Manchester United retain confidence in Michael Carrick
The club’s support does not mean results are being ignored. Romano said Manchester United, Carrick and others at the club could not be satisfied with the team’s recent performances, while stressing that football remains a results-driven business.
“Then obviously, we are, as I always say, in the results business, in the results industry. And so, results are always needed, but Man Utd maintain their confidence in Michael Carrick as a club,” Romano said.
Carrick therefore retains time to change the mood around his side. A run of improved results after the break could quickly ease the uncertainty, while any decision over his future would be more likely to emerge if Manchester United’s poor start continues.
