A local sailor has reported a Loch Ness Monster sighting after seeing what he described as an “oversized crocodile head” rising from the water.
The unnamed witness was taking his yacht across Loch Ness on July 25 when he noticed the object around 100 metres away. It vanished before he could take a photograph, according to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register.
He said the sighting took place about two miles west of Glenmoriston, with the vessel in the middle of the loch and the object between it and the north shore.
“[I] spotted what I can only explain as a large oversized crocodile head above the water off the starboard quarter at at distance of around 100 metres,” he told the register.
“At the time we were about two miles west of Glenmoriston, sea state was slight and visibility good. Our position was in the middle of the loch with the head sighting between us and the North shore.”
The sailor said he had not managed to capture an image because the head disappeared quickly and it took him several minutes to process what he was seeing. He and his passengers continued to Fort Augustus safely, with no further sightings.
The report follows another unconfirmed claim involving Loch Ness, after a woman said she had identified three objects resembling a “pod of whales” while examining the area on Google Earth. Julie Fraser, from the north-east of England, submitted the discovery to the same sightings register and said she believed the objects could be “a little family of Nessies”.
