Stellantis is recalling 239,131 Ram 1500 pickup trucks in the United States after a software fault was found that could stop the rear-view camera image appearing when the vehicle is put into reverse.
The recall covers certain 2025 and 2026 model-year vehicles built between 6 October 2023 and 23 February 2026. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the affected trucks may fail to meet federal rear-visibility requirements.
Affected vehicles may have a problem with the radio software that prevents the camera feed from being displayed during a reversing manoeuvre. The regulator warned that the loss of the image reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle and could increase the risk of a crash.
The recall is listed as NHTSA campaign 26V560 and carries Stellantis’ internal reference 83D. The company’s filing said there may be no warning before the camera image fails to appear.
Stellantis began investigating the issue on 17 March 2026 after concerns emerged involving rear-view cameras on some Ram 1500 trucks. The company later determined that certain vehicles could be non-compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which sets requirements for rear visibility.
The remedy is a free radio software update, which may be carried out over the air or by a dealer. Owner notification letters are due to be sent in phases from 24 September to 2 October 2026.
Owners can check whether their vehicle is included by entering its vehicle identification number into the NHTSA or Ram recall lookup services. The recall applies only to specific vehicles, rather than every Ram 1500 from the 2025 or 2026 model years.
