Manchester United are considering a move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, with a potential January loan deal reportedly under discussion as the club assess options in the position.
Balde, 22, was targeted by United during the summer and remains on their list, despite having fallen out of favour under Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick. His reduced role has prompted speculation that the Catalan club would be willing to sanction his departure.
Manchester United weigh January move for Alejandro Balde
TeamTalk reports that Barcelona would consider allowing Balde to leave in January as they look to bring in a replacement and raise funds. The proposed arrangement would give United the opportunity to strengthen midway through the season.
United scouts are understood to believe that Balde has greater potential than he has so far been able to show at Barcelona. His pace and attacking approach are viewed as qualities that could provide the dynamic left-sided option the club are seeking.
A loan would offer United a relatively low-risk way to assess the defender before committing to a permanent deal. The club have reportedly been approached about a possible temporary move, although no agreement has been reached.
Barcelona are also said to have contacted Sunderland, Everton and Fulham while exploring possible destinations for Balde. The discussions form part of the club’s efforts to move the defender on and create room in their budget.
