Multiple crashes caused major delays on Atlanta’s key highways on Friday morning, with an overturned vehicle blocking lanes on westbound Interstate 20 and a separate multi-vehicle collision closing northbound Interstate 285 in DeKalb County.
The I-20 incident was reported near Martin Luther King Jr Drive in west Atlanta, where two of the four left-hand lanes were blocked. Emergency crews were sent to the scene, while motorists were warned to expect significant delays and consider alternative routes.
I-285 crash closes northbound lanes
Further east, all northbound lanes of I-285 were closed at Exit 34 in DeKalb County as authorities investigated a crash involving at least three vehicles.
Traffic backed up towards the Stone Mountain Freeway, with drivers being diverted before reaching the scene. Suggested alternatives included Mountain Industrial Boulevard, Clairmont Road and the Downtown Connector.
Drivers on I-20 were advised to use Hollowell Parkway to avoid the overturned vehicle. A separate delay was also reported in Gwinnett County on westbound State Route 316, where a problem in the left-hand lane slowed traffic.
